Professional soccer player Jaelene Daniels chose to stick to her faith by sitting out a July 29 match instead of wearing an LGBT pride jersey. Daniels is a defender for the North Carolina Courage football team, one of the 12 teams of the National Women’s Soccer League.
“Jaelene will not be rostered as she made the decision to not wear our pride jersey. While we’re disappointed with her choice, we respect her right to make that decision for herself,” the team said in a statement. Meanwhile, the defender has not yet issued a comment on her absence during the match.
This was not the first time Daniels, who is a devout Christian, chose her strongly-held faith above all else.
Back in 2017, Daniels turned down an offer to play for the U.S. women’s national soccer team as she would have been expected to wear a pride-themed jersey. (Related: In leftist America, it’s now mandatory that you wear a fascist LGBT jersey or Muslim hijab in order to participate in society.)
“I just felt so convicted in my spirit that it wasn’t my job to wear this jersey,” she said a year later during her interview on “The 700 Club,” the flagship television program of the Christian Broadcasting Network.
“I gave myself three days to just seek and pray and determine what He was asking me to do in this situation. I knew in my spirit I was doing the right thing. I knew I was being obedient.”
Daniels was met by opposition coming from the LGBT community when she returned to play for her professional club, but the Courage defender was not deterred. “I remain committed to my faith and my desire for people to know that my love for them isn’t based on their belief system or sexuality,” she said.
Prior to Daniels choosing to sit out Courage’s July 29 match, several male players also did the same. They chose God instead of wearing pride jerseys during the month of June.
Five pitchers for the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team chose not to wear pride-themed jerseys and hats during a June 4 game, citing their Christian faith. The five – Jason Adam, Jalen Beeks, Brooks Raley, Jeffrey Springs and Ryan Thompson – got the ire of woke ESPN sports broadcasters, who called them “bigots.”
Adam defended their decision, saying that it came down to faith. “It’s a hard decision because ultimately, we all said what we want is for them to know that all are welcome and loved here,” he told the Tampa Bay Times.
Three days before Daniels opted not to wear her pride jersey, seven members of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles rugby team in Australia sat out their match as their new jersey features the LGBT flag.
During a July 26 press conference, Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler said seven players of his team would sit out the game with the Roosters the next day. The seven players – Josh Aloiai, Jason Saab, Christian Tuipulotu, Josh Schuster, Haumole Olakau’atu, Tolutau Koula and Toafofoa Sipley – cited cultural and religious reasons for their refusal to play.
“The players will not play and we accept their decision,” said Hasler. “These young men are strong in their beliefs and convictions, and we will give them the space and support they require.”
